DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok since I am helping my son on his 81 gs1000gx the seat extension or rear cover what ever it's called doesn't line up with the seat. Is there different seats on the 1000's? this bike had a touring pack on it and he ordered tail piece from ebay it said for gs850-1100's. The seat sits a 1/4" past from on the right said.

The seat looks correct for an 80-81 GS850-1000G model.

try loosening the seat hinges and moving the seat to see if that helps. do the two arms (rear section of the frame) appear to be bent side to side not allowing the tail piece to align properly to the seat?

off hand, those are the only things I can think of which may cause your issue.

Getting those seats to line up flush and centered on the tailpiece can take some doing. I had the same problems, by loosening the nuts that hold on the tail piece it will give some play to shift it forward and back and side to side. The big problem was the seat, somehow it was just too far to the right. The seat pan was twisted so I straightened that out to where it sat flush on bike frame. Then I found the big culprit, the rear seat hinge was bent, I straightened that out and also there's some play in the hinge bolts and by trial and error got those in the right spot. Finally it came out to the point where I don't think I could do any better and it fit as well as any new bike did.

Here's a before shot:

And here's a after shot: Of course the seat has been re-covered, and the tail piece repainted, I can move up the tail piece a little more, but I didn't want the seat to chaffe against the tail piece, more so the tool tray flap that bows out somewhat towards the seat, so I left a small gap there.

Thanks I'll try that and see if tweaking everything helps.Once I tackle that project and he finds a left side cover I can finish painting everything.this is the color he chose not sure what color it is except made by Dupli Color it's actually more blue after clear.
