A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a 78 GS 1000 that I just bought a NOS set of Jardine 4 into 2 slip on flared mufflers for. I would like to remove the baffles but am not having much luck. I drilled the 2 rivets out and used a metal rod with a hook on the end , vice grips and a hammer to try to knock them out. I am not 100% sure that the baffles are removable but with the rivets in them I would think that they would be. Does anyone know if the are removable or have a set of these on there bike that the have removed the baffles. I am not wanting to leave them out but just want to make some modifications to get a little more sound from them. They are too quite.

Brace yourself. You are probably going to catch a LOT of flack for wanting to add more noise.

I have not heard the Jardine 4 into 2 setup to know how loud they are to start with, but I would venture that they are already louder than stock. One reason aftermarket pipes tend to be louder is because of less restriction to flow. Less restriction means more air flow, which means that you will have to re-jet your carbs if you want to keep "enjoying" your noise.

While you are out "enjoying" your noise, stop every so often to take a poll of the people that happen to be in the area to see if they are enjoying your noise, too. Chances are, they are not. We already have a reputation for being a noisy bunch of so-and-so's, why add fuel to the fire?

Let's see... You want help with making your bike annoyingly loud?

No.

Hey JJ Next time if you have nothing more than ignorant negative comments to reply with why don't you just keep them to yourself. If you can't offer helpfull advice to people on here maybe you should leave the keyboard alone!

No.

My comments weren't negative. I was just stating that I refuse to give you advice to help make your bike annoyingly loud, and hope that nobody else will.

It gives motorcycle riders a poor image to the rest of society, annoys your neighbors and anyone else you drive by, and generally makes you look like an asshat.

Have a great day, and welcome to the GSR, kiddo.

And THIS is from someone who just joined the forum?

JJ may not be displaying the ultimate in tact, but he very succinctly stated the opinion of many on the forum. I hinted at that with my response, JJ just came right out and said it. There are several others that would have also said the same thing, JJ just beat them to it.

Did you happen to notice that I told you to brace yourself for some flack? :-\\\

I have the jardine flared slipons on one of my gs1000. The op is right...they are very quiet. Many of my bone stock bikes are a lot louder. Problem is the outlet diameters. Smaller than your thumb...serious. They are not performance pipes. More like legal replacement mufflers. As far as modification-no clue, maybe jardine offered a performance core back then you could imitate, but you are working with a small body muffler and a tiny exit hole so it would be an uphill battle to get nice sound out of them.

I had a neighbor in Phoenix who let his straight pipe Harley warm up in the garage with the door open at 5:30 every morning before he drove his wife to work.
If his house had caught fire the other neighbors would have brought marshmallows.
I had a BMW at the time, someone suggested I get a "system" for it so other's could hear me.
I replied that I really didn't think the neighbors needed to know my schedule.
To each his own but a little respect goes a long way.......

Yes I am new here an thanks for the Heart felt welcome. Just so everyone knows I am not looking for a way to make the bike obnoxiously loud just a little deeper sound. I don't mind criticism but don't be rude with it. I had no choice in getting a new exhaust for tha bike. The originals were rusted out beyond repair. The Jardine are way quiter than the stock ones. It sounded more like a air compressor than a bike. I see that not every one on here can get there point across with out being rude. For those that can thanks.
