lowering a bike??

i want to lower my 78 gs750. what are my options for ways to do it? I know about lowering blocks, but i can't find any. what other ways are there?? please grace me with a quick reply oh powerful GS GODS of KNOWLDGE.[-o<

Might be able to rig these up. gs550's have eye to eye shocks were the 750's are eye to clevis.

Do you have clevis type and shoe brakes instead of caliper in the back. I have a set for the 750. I bought them but my 79 750 has a disc in the back and they wont work.

I lowered my 78 750 nearly 3 inches in the front by switching out to a 1995 Ninja 600 front end. I haven't lowered the rear yet, I plan on doing that with a custom swing arm and adjustable height adjustment and mono shock, using a formula car style suspension.

i have a disc in the back, (i think it's eye to clevis, but i'm not 100% sure it's in storage right now) will that prevent me from lowering it with blocks?

If it's for a short leg problem then you could get a thinner seat...

not a short leg issue, i just want the bike to sit a couple of inches lower. the shocks are eye-clevis. could i get new shocks that are shorter, or could i just cut an inch off the springs on the current shocks:shock: ??

I lowered my 1100E by using a 80 series tire in the back instead of a 90. It went down over an inch. This was going from a "tall" 90 to a "short" 80. The same size in different brands varies by alot. Can get a wider tire that way too.
the front has two easy ways. Add an extra rebound spring or spacer to the damping rod inside the fork tube. Thats all. Or loosen the clamps and slide the fork tubes up an inch and tighten them back down. You'll need to use heavier fork oil and/or more spring preload.

The best way to lower the bike is to do the GSXR rear wheel/front end swap. You'll drop the height by going to 17" wheels and lower profile radial tires. You get to keep your stock shocks in the rear and get a huge improvement in suspension quality up front. I've done it with an '82 1100E and it was a bolt on deal up front. Lots of info on the swap on this website.
