DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Major Carb Problem

I am trying to rebuild the carbs on my 1980 gs1000g, while I was rebuilding them I decided to install a Dynajet stage 3 kit.
The instuctions tell you to adjust the fuel mixture screws in all the way then back off two and a half turns. One of them moved easily the other barely move if at all. Now I have butchered the remaining three and broke a drill bit off in one while trying to use an easy out. ](*,)

Am I completely screwed, did I ruin my carbs? [-o<

Please help guys, the weather is too nice for my bike to be int he garage.

Should have been new mixture screws in the rebuild kits, along with their associated o-ring and washer. When I get to where you are I use a small hand torch, not oxy-accy. I should get some warnings back, never to do this, but you're almost out of options when you get to where you are. You will see some of these with the towers cut off so they could get easier access to the screws, to get them out. That's tricky to leave enough threads for proper adjustment. My experience loosening them with a penatrent wasn't good. Soaked them in PB Blaster for about a month with no results, might work on a different set though.

You can pick up another set of carbs on ebay but chances are the pilot screws are frozen on at least some of them as well. Check out what slopoke has to say about jet kets in some recent posts and what I've learned on pilot/air screw removal. Then check out motorcyclecarbs.com, click on the "Parts and Services" button, and scroll down to "GS Pilot Jets." Maybe your pilot screws/jets can be saved but you'll just have to talk to Robert and send them in to find out. Don't stress on it. It's only a motorcycle so have nice beer.

:D
Just wanted to say thanks to you guys for your help.
I trimmed the towers down using a dremmel tool and a cut off wheel, then renotched the stripped screws with the cut off wheel. Had to cut into the towers a little bit but got two off them out this way with a little heat from a propane torch. Be careful when doing this, the bodies can melt easily and there are rubber parts that don't like the heat.
Had to drill the other one out, was a bit hard to drill in without hitting the thread or going in two deep. After going through three sizes of easy-outs, I finally got the last one out :!:

Thanks again guys, I'm sure I'll be back with someother interesting problems soon.

ok I couldn't find any posts in the search on how far down to cut the towers. if anyone could give another detailed description of this process, or direct me to the topic where it was I'm interested in the knowledge.
