A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hopefully, someone here is running these carbs & can give me some baseline settings. My 80 GS1100 has 1 mm oversize intakes & some mild porting. It has pods & a V&H pipe. I just purchased the carbs & they should be on their way to me so I'm looking for a starting point in tuning these bad boys. I'll need a set of push pull cables & throttle housing as well so advice on where to order them from is also needed.

Any help is appreciated.

Paul

Start out with a 20 pilot jet 132 main and needle on the 4th notch from the top and the fuel screw at 5/8 turn out that should get you real close
As far as the throttle goes almost any motorcycle parts distributor sells them or ebay

i ran a 15 pilot 130ish main and needle in the middle.
mixture out 1/2 max.
mik recommends 1/2 max or at least they used to.
you can tighten up the throttle spring on the carbs and by pass the push/pull.
this is what i have always done.
heavy throttle but simple installation and no more parts to buy.

It is between a 1/2 turn and 1 full turn if you need to turn the fuel screw less than 1/2 turn your pilot is to big and if you need more than 1 full turn it is to small. The more compression your motor makes the smaller main will be required. I could care less what Mukuni says. I even cut a little off the accelerator pump rod so the squirt comes later than the adjuster allows so it's not squirting when I am riding around town.
The 8 valve motors like the smaller pilots but I have found that the 16 valve motors like the bigger pilots and the needle on the 4th notch seems to give the best 60 mph roll on response. I know the old slogan of make it lean and it will run mean but lean equals extra heat.

edit. Mukuni start settings is 17.5 pilot, 130 main, needle on 3rd notch and fuel screw between 1/4 and 1/2 turn out. But again I could care less what Mukuni says. I know what works great on the 16 valve GS motors. I have repaired many sets of these carbs and sent them back to the owners jetted my way and no one has had to even had to change a jet. I know that is a bold statement but it is true.
The higher up in altitude you are the leaner jets you will need

i could care less also....
what i posted is what works and have worked for me and my customers.
i like clean pipes and near white plug ceramic.
the pilot and mains is a ball park for stock or semi stock 1150 engine combo's.
you think we should tell the OP not to crank the mixtures screws down??
yeah don't do it or you will break the tips off the brass screws.
i only offer info that has worked for the combo's mentioned and even my 1200 bandit and others 1127 engines.
thank you!
