A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

mixing castrol GO with castrol GTX

timebombprod

Forum Sage
itd be 3 quarts of castrol GO with the GTX topping off the rest. i think ive posted about this before, sorry if i have. also is it okay to run 4T oil in my bike, it says 4T is for high tempatures and lots of torque. so im guessing just higher performance and hotter temp stuff without breaking weight or viscosity. im guessing with this being aircooled it will be a good choice?

Why the pricey oil? Mixing should not be a problem.
Get some good old cheap rotella.

I use 4T in the kbike and wince at the price. It was oem spec until BMW fully realized its buyers were poseur dip*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$s whod pay anything with a logo.

i guess just because its the first oil i ever picked up.

i only see 15-40 for rotella, does 15-40 work better in florida?

OMG an oil thread!!!!! YIPEE.

Well I only drive in summer here and it gets hot but likley not FLA summer hot.
Been on the rotella for years in the GS works fine but I think I can only get a 15 or 10 w 40
nott hat it matters
number one is the viscosity at 0degrees Celsius a thing you likly never experience.
The other is at 100 Celsius

Or viscosity at the freezing point then the boiling point of water.

Depending on who you ask your motorcycle will explode, the Suzuki family over in Japan will send a samurai force to kill you, you'll suffer male pattern baldness, macular degeneration and you'll never possibly be able to satisfy a woman in the bedroom.

If you ask me, don't worry about it. Like cipher said, rotella is cheap and if it's not available I grab whatever 10w40 is reasonably priced.

so, have a gallon of rotella T4 15W-40 oil in my cart for $15, sound good? hopefully the samurais dont come.

if 15w-40 isnt a good choice, ill do the extra looking for the 10w-40 thats recommended

I've used Pennzoil 10-40 and it lasted about the same milage before I could hear the engine noise getting louder. Right now I've got some sort of semi synthetic "high milage" 10-40 in it, things got a bit louder when I ran it on 92 degree day last week. They tend to get louder in hit weather.

The only giudeline that seems to make sense is avoiding oil with "friction modifiers" in it. The clutch runs "wet" and has some oil on it, with the friction modifiers your clutch has a chance of slipping.

Another guideline some follow is that the lowest rated full synthetic oil is still better than the highest rated regular oil. I'm going to change mine at 3000 miles either way and refuse to go broke doing it.
