DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

gaskets and side cover rubbers came in today yay progress. Wanted to test the carbs but didnt have any of the lines.:( Well off to either homedepew or to an auto parts store tomorrow not really up for much fiddling tonight.

Got the fusebox connector sorted out today.

Plug from cycle terminals, Shout outs to SVSooke, posplayr, and everyone else from my electrical thread for all the help.

Going to solder everything in most likely saturday evening/sunday morning

synched up the carbs yesterday. she seemed to run well there was some slight spitting and popping but nothing crazy im suspecting the airbox isnt sealing properly on the sides and on the element. and maybe new exhaust gaskets are due and maybe going through the exhaust for pinholes. I also noted that the battery was weak after the synch i had her running with fans for over a half hr at 2000 rpm it should not have gone almost flat so im going to run through the stater and r/r to see whats up. The r/r thats currently on there is not stock. Ill post pictures if i get it out.

Also the newer fusebox its working great soldered everything no more spade connectors.:)

Now another question I noticed the Tach was really slow to move. Im thinking of taking it out and cleaning it up or should i just run and grab a new one?

It could just be a dirty cable, or needs a spray up into it of a lubricant. I'd try that before ordering anything.

yeah its a new cable. i also r to just spray up into it to no avail. im going to try and open it up like i did my speedo years back and spray all the insides ill post how it goes

Took the bezel off and sprayed the shaft springs and such. Worked like a charm.

Yay.. just ran through the stator papers fault finding guide with my bike and the stator failed on 2 of the 3 tests... between the a-b a-c and b-c wires 0.00 ohms and ac v read 58.4v on the 3 wires which is under the 60v its supposed to read.. didnt bother testing the R/R going to replace anyway just to be sure. Off to ricks site..

Well the stator has shipped from ricks. Also I ordered a few connector sets from cycle terminal but on his site stated that he was going on vacation on tuseday meaning tomorrow so even though I placed the order sunday he was on vacation mode today. Cant really blame them so my connector replacement will have to wait.. oh well:)

Well im back at it. Winter and on unemployment for a time masons don't like the cold. But had time to go over the bike its been a while so i went over over everything again. Installed the new stator & r/r buttoned up the fuse box (83 upgrade), replaced all of the connectors from the battery box to headlight bucket. everything tucked away neatly nothing in the way of the airbox. Now all the lights are bright and the starter turns quicker. I removed the oil cooler it was too much a pain in the ass to remove the carbs n such. Did an oil change.

Tomorrow im going to finish the connectors in the rear and check the valve clearances.:cocksure:

All's well electrically.:D Checked the valves clearances and 3 of 8 need to be changed 2 where <.04 and one just barely 0.04 the rest where 0.06-0.08. Sadly Z1 is out of one of the sizes i need. Gonna check with a few local shops/garages that work on older bikes to see if they have them. Worst case scenario ill have to order a 5pk of K&L's. Unless some one has used 2.65's or 2.7's:-\\\
