A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So i was gifted a motorcycle.
Last time I rode was 7 years and it wasnt mine.

So im a complete newb whrn it comes to motorcycles really.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me things about this bike and how it ridesand its maintanace schedules.
Any advice on this bike would be great as it seems hard to find info on it.

Its a 1982 gs1100 bobber.
I misplaced the keys and the locksmith charges me about 180 to make a key but i see ignition switches with keys on ebay for 30 bucks.

What and how do I correctly change out the ignition?
Thank you guys for helping out.

Please let me know if you need any more imfo on the bike

I'd go with the new switch. Should be no big deal to change. My pants were stolen from a gym I used to go to with my car keys in them. The guy just charged me $60 to open the door and make a key. $180 is steep! However, Illinois is a Democratic state. 'Nuff said. :D

Post up a pic. Is it a G or an E?

Seems like hes the only locksmith in the area maybe thats why.

Ill have to doublecheck the title but i think its an E.

The bike has the ignition wiring running inside where the gas tank it seems, hard to make out with the rest of the wires all bunching up under the handlebars.

Heres a few pics.

If you had a stock gas cap or helmet lock there would be a 3 digit number you could use to get a key made or buy one on ebay. The switch assembly just plugs in, but many had security screws mounting them IIRC

Bike didnt come with either but the ignition has a 3 digit code on it .

Would any 82 gs1100 egnition switch plug right in or do I have to look for a specific one?

That's not an E. Can't see enough to tell if it's a G or a GL.

I think I can see straight forks, which would make it a G.

Good luck with the hardtail on that final drive.

The title doesnt say if its a G or L or whathave you.
Im having a hard time finding that out lol

You dont think shaft drive and hardtail go well together?
I would prefer rear suspension myself but it is what it is.The bike runs, motor rebuilt 4 months back and looks ok.

Ill post a few other pics to see if you guys can tell what model it is.

It appears to be an 1100G that has been BUTCHERED.

Unless that is the style of bike that really appeals to you, I would sell it and get a real bike.

You mentioned the engine is fresh, it's a shame to waste it on the rest of that contraption.
