A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I recently acquired a 1982 GS450L. I plan on converting it to a brat style bike. I've stumbled across this forum many times through google searches so I figured I might as well join.

Hello from 25-30 miles west of you.

Thanks for posting and introducing you self, and the picture.

Looks like a fairly stock complete 450 there. And maybe could clean up real well.

My advice (infused with my opinion) would be to clean it up, work on getting it running well, check the brakes and the tires, ride it a lot, then see if you like it, before hack it up and make it harder to ride.
Maybe take the nice stock bike to a bike night or some thing.
(maybe I should find some in GR area...... oh, Summer Blues Series, is free, special parking area up close for mo'cykls, Wednesday nights, DeltaPlex starting 06/15 with Tommy Castro that night, ....)

Hey, is another guy recently introduced himself, "new fuy from Michigan", and says he is in Grand Rapids also, also talking about brat-cafe and such.

Maybe take a ride out Leonard road to Spring Lake / Grand Haven sometime. PM me and maybe meet up somewhere.

.

PS: Although on an L, are some mods that would make it easier to ride for any distance, and that would be the handlebars. Look for twr1776 posting/pics for how he mods the L out of them for better riding any distance.

Thank you for the feedback Redman. I definitely plan on replacing the tires and rebuilding/cleaning the carbs.

This is my second bike so I plan on taking my time going through everything before riding.
