A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hiya all,

I am Dave from Alfreton, Derbyshire - England. I work full time so the amount of time I get to spend on here is limited to how much work we have on at the time.

I have just purchased GS1000 1978 model for restoration. There are a few bits and bobs I will need from time to time, so I will need a little help. I hope also that I may be of use to you all in some way.

I have been messing with engines and motorbikes since I were 12 years old, that's 46 years !!. Nothing yet has beaten me ( there has been a few close calls mind).

My bike is imported from California and is 100% original ( other than a rather large King & Queen seat, and high rise handlebars). The frame No is GS1000105105
can anyone tell me what is the exact model so that I can order spare parts and obtain the correct parts book.

Regards

Welcome!

Take note of the instructions on how to post photos on GSR. We NEED photos!!!

There was two different 1000 models in 1978 (USA market, not sure about UK). E model has dual disc front brakes and aluminum wheels, the regular model GS1000, sometimes denoted the "C" model which references 1978, has a single disc and spoke wheels. The C is not an official model designation though. We can not tell anything from the VIN number.

Welcome. Good luck with the project. Can I assume from your name that you're into Hondas as well?

yes Dorkburger, I am into Hondas. I have 2 fireblades.. I am very interested in this new bike I have because through all of my endeavours with motorcycles over the years -- the build quality of suzukis are very, very good.. and as such I MAY WELL GET RID OF EVERYTHING THAT IS NOT SUZUKI
