New Owner... help identifying?

Hi guys. New GS owner here in Chicago.
Bike is great, getting it up and running this weekend. Bought for 500 with a dead battery and leaky front brake calipers.

The various models have been giving me trouble sourcing the actual model that mine is.
PO said it's a 1980. its definitely a gs750. chain drive, dual front disc, single rear disc brakes. 16 valves, DOHC.

leads me to believe it's a GS750 L?? but information is sketchy online and sometimes contradictory.

what else is needed to positively identify the model?

yesterday was my first day workin on it. didnt get any pics before this, really. just one ugly one at night with a cell phone flash.

It's an 80 or 81 750E.
Great bike.
Just for giggles look in the front of the engine by the #1 header pipe and it should say 750 cc or 748 or however they rated them. If it's an 1100 it will say 1074 or 1075cc.

It is not an "L". :encouragement:

Many will look at the leading-axle forks and say "you have an 'L'." In most cases that would be correct, but the '80 and '81 750E and 1100E both had leading-axle forks. An "L" would also have a smaller gas tank, a stepped seat and chrome fenders, along with a smaller, round headlight.

You should also know that "T" was Suzuki's designation for the 1980 model year, so what you have can be officially known as a "GS750ET" or "1980 GS750E". Since the "1980" and "T" say the same thing, using both would be redundant.

much appreciation for the help, i kinda took the information and ran away with it, neglecting to offer kudos.

done a bunch more reading on the bike, in leiu of actual wrenching.
took the carbs off and gave them a thorough cleaning. the intake boots look good, no cracks or brittleness. they're not new, but i suspect they're less than 36 years old.

so here's the interesting piece. browsing craigslist, i found this post. talked to the guy on the phone and he's definitely looking to get this project into somebody else's hands.

i wanted just the tank, ignition, and some other pieces, but he's pretty insistent on keeping them together, and insinuated that he'd make me a real good deal to take it off his hands.

MY question, to the knowledge base, what are the discrepancies between 1977 and 1980 750 models? he's got the 8 valve engine, i have the 16... that's big. what kind of parts will swap between them, and which wont?
wondering if i should pick up another project....

I'm pretty sure the caps on the tire valves will interchange.

Not sure how much of anything else.

Certainly not without a LOT of effort.
