    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New starter solenoid looks a bit different. Can it still work?

Hi gang,

Working on rebuilding a 1980 GSX750 and I got a bad reading from the solenoid so I ordered up a new one. I picked it up brand new and it definitely says it works for a GS750. Well, the new one has two wires (yellow/green and a green) whereas the original had just one (yellow/green).

Is the green wire on the new one just a ground that I can frame ground or is it simply the wrong item? Would love to just make this one work, but it is not the end of the world if I have to return it or buy a new one.

Any help is appreciated.

A picture would help? It could be the green is the solenoid ground. If you look on hour old solenoid there is a second wire it is just grounded to the case. An ohm meter would confirm the same . There should be about 5-10 ohms between the two leads.
If it is a ground then ground it to one of the solenoid mounting bolts.

@POSPLAYR, I think you are correct as I was leaning on your assumption being the answer, but I will use the ohm meter and find out for sure. I really appreciate the help.

That add is a real stretch as far as compatibility. It sure looks like a hot from the right hand switch with a ground. After confirming it will work, I would cut off the connector and solder on a bullet connector and crimp/solder on a ground lug for the other ground wire. As long as you can get about 6V to the solenoid it should be enough to power the starter so bad connections are not nearly the concern.
