    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No spark on cylinder 2 & 3

Hello,

I have a 81 GS650G that i just recently got running it needed carb work, now that it is running I have noticed that I have no spark on cylinder 2&3. I have OHM tested the coils, reading was (3.7-3.9) and they are good according to the repair manual. I even swapped the coils to make sure, still same result no fire on 2&3. Also I OHM tested the signal generator and got a reading of 357 OHM'S which should be good. So this all leads me to beileve that my igniter may have gone bad, which might have been caused from my weak stator. Does this seem logical? I am new to motorcycles (first bike) I would really appreciate any feed back.

Bad stator won't cause no spark, unless the battery is dead.
 
I lost a coil last week riding up a mountain road. I slid the tank back and one of the wires had come loose from the push on connections (primary side). Probably knocked it loose when I was rejetting and kept removing the tank. On my bike that connection is basically in the weather, facing forward, under the tank.
 
Coil swap - no change = not the coil
Signal generator tests O.K. (assuming your values are in the ballpark) = not the signal generator.
All you have left is the wiring from the signal generator to the igniter, the wiring from the igniter to the coil, and the igniter itself.
Follow the yellow brick road.

Low voltage will not damage an igniter. Old age will.
 
My repair manual said my values for the signal generator should be 240-360. I am going to check the wiring tomorrow and if that checks out im going to test the igniter. If my igniter is bad i was considering purchasing a Dyna S ignition, Does anyone here have any experience with these? I am hoping to get her on the road in the next few weeks. I will keep you all updated after I try my hand at some more diagnostics tomorrow.

Yes. An excellent upgrade to the stock ignition. You will no longer need your igniter, either.
 
Yes,double check all connections from signal generator to ignitor and there to coils.With ignition "on" ,check voltage on orange/white wire going to coils- I'm guessing you need 11 volts minimum (less during cranking is ok)
 
I did check my voltage at the coils yesterday I had 11.5 volts. I am really hoping its a bad wire somewhere, well my wallet is hoping anyways.
 
Clean the plug that feeds ignitor and the plug that connects signal generator to ignitor (both under seat ).
 
DeOxit is an excellent cleaner/lubricant for all electrical connections. A must have for all GS mechanics.
