    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

oil leak after oil change 82 gs450tz advice

hi all

I have a gs450tz . Did an oil change . 2 part question

1: after changing filter I used same gasket as before on metal cap noticed a dip on corner of rubber gasket . Tighted screws
started engine ..walla leaking tighted more still leaking

do I have to replace this gasket each time ?

or Did I over tighen screws on cap and riuned my gasket?

2: Small leak in my oil pan purchased replacement oil pan gasket I removed all nuts cant get the pan to drop its the original pan . Seems to be fused to metal any advise?

Answer to Part 1. You May have Pinched the O-Ring when Re installing the Cover. Just to be on the Safe Side, I would Replace the O-ring. Answer to Part 2, I'm not Sure BUT another Guy around Here THOUGHT He had Removed All Oil pan Bolts and Resorted to a Pry Bar, Thus Stripping Out the ONE Bolt He had Missed! Answer to Part 3 that You Didnt ask, Be Very Careful not to Overtighten the Filter Cover Bolts as the Studs are Rather Delicate and will Strip out Easily. If the O-ring Gasket is in Good Shape and is Installed Properly the Cover will seal without Heavy Torqueing.
 
Just Remembered, Careful NOT to Overfill, Bad for Seals AND the Extra Oil IS gonna Go Somewhere that You Probably Won't Want It.:)
 
Further info to point 2.
Natural thing to do is remove all bolts around the outside, but there is also one bolt in the center area of the pan... This could be holding you up.

Gs450 tz ... still had oil leak .. I ordered 2 cap gaskets and pinched another due to overtorch.. thank g-d I got 1 extra gasket second one is holding good ..seems very easy to overtorch it.

Anyone know the exact # { setting torch wrench } for the oil cap ..? :?

per the Clymer manual for my '82 GS750E, the oil filter cover bolts should be torqued to 4-6 ft-lbs. I realize its a different bike, but its the only information I've got. :D
