    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Omg, help. What do i do? Lock nut lost inside motor

Hey all. Just rebuilt motor and trans. Long story short, one of the lock nuts on #3 intake rocker backed off. Had to go down chain tunnel. No where to be found. Not in oil pan. Not sure where it could go.
Do I worry? Throw another one on and check pan again after a few hundred miles. ????
 
long pencil magnet with a flexi stem and go fishing all around the cam chain and the crank gear.
 
After lots of fishing and poking you may even knock it down and into the pan so recheck that after a while too.

I wouldn't run it without finding the nut. I can't imagine the damage it could do if it got into the cam chain. Just my two cents worth ,Jerry
 
Removed head, pulled jugs, and oil pan. Nothing. Not sure what is under cam chain. There is a metal cup thing above the windage tray. Have poked a magnet very where I could. Anyone have a photo of cases in that area?
 
I know this sounds dopey.... but you did know the nut was there? Did you see it fall?

I share your pain. This is a real tough go.

If it has some even some magnetic (sometimes induced from magnetic tools - how do they get magnetised?) properties, it may have suck to the cam chain or crank cheek plate. A quick chirp on the throttle could throw it into the pan... the tenshioner would likely wipe of off....... Or it go into the trans. That'll be sudden stoppage.. very very expensive in aircraft and no fun except when sticking your finger in a Sudden Stop saw and that's still about $300 to fix.

Found it. Trapped in guide holder under chain. Thank you Lord baby jesus.
