    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi.
I went down in the garage to try to start my gs850g to see if it would start up. The battery was totally dead so I used the battery of my car using jumper cables. When I turned the key, everything light up as normal, and turn signals were blinking as usual. But when I hit the ignition button, instead of the starter going off, I heard a little ''tic'' sound and everything died. The starter never even engaged. And now, NOTHING! no lights no blinking... The bike is dead:oops:. Please tell me I blew a $1.50 fuse in there and I don't have to change someting costly :pray::pray::pray:

You don't have good contact from your jumper cables...either bad connection on the bike or the new battery or both. Wiggle the cables, your lights will come back on.

Either way, though, there's no replacement for a good charge on the bike's battery.

Thanks for the comment but the problem isn't related to loose wireing. It has to do with the motorcycle dying the moment I hit the ignition button. Now all the lights are dead like if the main fuse blew or something... I already wiggled the wires.
 
It's more than likely the fuse. You didn't start the car to jump the bike did you?
 
If every thing went out, well, then the Main fuse (the 15 amp one).

Oh, wait, you didnt say what year 850G (glass or plastic fuses), so maybe its not so obvious which one is the 15 amp. IF I remember right, the Main fuse is the next to the bottom one.

But check them all.

Further comment: No, I dont think you toasted something as a result of useing an automotive battery (battery alone, not with car running), well, that is, unless you had reverse polarity. But then again if it was reverse polarity it probably would have done the damage as soon as it was connected.

Well Thanks for the input.

Fortunately the car wasn't running. Today I'll open up the fuse box crossing my fingers I'll find a burnt fuse:-k
 
Check all battery grounds and make sure they are clean and go directly to the frame or engine and not through the funny battery box mounting sleave. No ground no nothing.

Look for a yellow wire with green stripe that goes to the starter solenoid. If that wire is shorted it will pop the fuse when you hit the starter button. You may have inadvertently shorted it out or it could be touching something near the battery.
