A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Pilot jet size discrepancy

While rebuilbing my carbs (1981 550L, all stock)) I've found the the replacement pilot jet is a 4.0 while the original is a 4.5. The other replacement jets are the same size as the originals (main jet=92.5, air jet=150). I've checked the K&L website and I've got the proper kit for my motorcycle (according to them).

I've put the new jets into the now clean carbs but I'm wondering if the K&L folks are wrong. I must say that when I removed the plugs before the rebuild they looked too rich.

Is there anyplace to check on the stock jetting for my motorcycle?

Sometimes it is on the fiche for the bike but it's always in the Suzuki factory manual.

In the 80's with the emission regulations our bikes were jetted lean. I would use the 4.5 pilot jet

Sqdancerlynn1,

The jets that came originally are the 4.5 and the new ones in the carb kits are 4.0.

Your original? jet is larger and may have been changed at some time in its life

That is correct. The pilot jets I removed from the carbs were 4.5. You are right that these may have beed put in by the previous owner as the air screw covers had already been removed. However, the main jet and the air jet were of the same size as in the rebuild kit.

Does anyone know the size of the jets that were original for this bike?

Thanks.
