A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm having issues with my bike i've got a 1982 gs850g

many of my issues have gotten better but i've still go to do fine tuning the only thing is now my bike has no pull. Would that be too much fuel or not enough ?

I was having hard time starting along with lots of backfiring and irradic idling but i've taken everything apart put on new gaskets and new plugs re gapped them along with one diaphram was pinched. any help is appreciated. I'm gonna try the highest rpm test but we'll see how it goes.

I'm looking at getting rid of the bike so I don't want to spend anything extra. New cv boots intake boots and weather stripping. New battery plugs and re gapped them along with a new stator and voltage regulator. Not sure what else to do cleaned the carbs and still no steady idle. I shouldn't have touched the screws stupid me :(

coils

coils

Alright I've done some huge trouble shooting. cylinder 3 and 4 are not firing but have spark gas is going in and through but not being burned. I checked the resistance on one coil and it's fine but the other is shot. in depth check the carbs and they are running fine. Im stumped at what to do now i've even switched the plugs around to eliminate the possibility of bad plugs. these are what i\m wondering.

why would a shot coil spark but not burn
why would the good coil be burning on one cylinder and not on the other ?

i'm thinking this is an electrical problem i'm thinking to buy another coil. anyone know if that would most likely work ? please any advice is appreciated.

Your nonfiring plugs are connected to different coils- left coil fires 1 and 4, right fires 2 and 3. If a coil failed, you'd get no spark in both plugs it was connected to. Do you have a multimeter? check plug lead to plug lead resisitance (plug caps removed) and then plug cap to plug cap resistance when attached to leads.

Hi,

Have the carbs been properly cleaned? Have you tried new spark plug caps? Are the spark plug wires on the proper plugs? Have you tried new spark plugs? What is the voltage to the coils when you press the start button?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Your best trouble shooting resource is right there at Basscliff's "Bikecliff" site. Click the link either in my sig, or his above. .. When you did the boots and carbs, did you replace the orings between the head and intake? Those suckers are a pain to change out, and can cause all sorts of bizarre idle issues, as well as power issues.
