I've read the instructions for Balancing my 1983 GS550 carbs and the way its explained it never mentions touching the Pilot screws. The manual says that the Pilot screws are PRE-SET 1 5/8 turns out. The manual pretty much says that you are adjusting the butterflies to balance at 1750...Is it that simple that the Pilot screws never get touched and the balancing is done with the throttle balance screw?
Have two hoses, mentioned above, connected to the , R and L adapters. Run the engine at steady 1750 and ,under this running condition, see if the two steel balls stay equally at the center level line, as they should, to signify that the two carbs R and L are balanced. If not loosen the LOCK NUT AND TURN THE THROTTLE VALVE SETTING in the Left carb to bring the ball to the center level line
