A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Please stop the bleeding!

Hello,
I started my 1983GS550ES for the first time since October and noticed fuel leaking from above the carbs. Has anyone seen this before?
See the link below for video:

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Any advice or comments are welcomed and much appreciated.

Your carbs are most likely gunked up from storage. Could be the petcock too. Some maintenance needed...

Thanks Nessism,
The carbs were disassembled and thoroughly cleaned 2 years ago. I've also used fuel stabilizer both winters so I'm hoping that they are still pretty clean. I'm thinking you may be right about the petcock but then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Thinking you might have some junk in the needle valves. You did Mr Barr's O ring kit right? If not it could be gas leaking past the needle valve O rings.

Give them a light tap on both sides with a rubber mallet- sounds like a stuck float-

Float could be sticking because of storage. Maybe try banging on floatbowl with screwdriver handle to see if the leaking stops. I wouldn't normally recommend such things, but if you used fuel stabilizer a little seafoam is all you may need to get the bike running well again, assuming you get the leak under control.

Thanks to all for the advice.

I was able to get a closer look and it seems like fuel is leaking from one end of the solid metal tube joining the 2 sets of Mikuni carbs. It's about 4" long. Is this the fuel transfer tube?
Can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to properly remove the carbs from my bike? There are quite a few rebuild tutorials but out there they start with the carbs removed.
