    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My #1 carb leaks gas. I have carefully gone through the carbs, cleaning them thoroughly while also (hopefully) meticulously setting the float levels. While the bike was apart, I noticed that the tank, while sitting on the floor of my porch, was leaking gas through the petcock/fuel line area. (Don't tell my wife [as if she couldn't tell already].)

I'm wondering if the gas leaking from the carb might be from a leaking petcock, much like my Yam650 does when I "used to" forget to turn the petcocks off. :oops:

If my GS (850L) petcock is leaking and needs replaced, I'm thinking of going to a manual petcock to replace the vacuum one. If I do that, what's a good choice as a manual replacement?

Although I've never used these personally, many GS'ers highly recommend Pingel fuel valves. They certainly look like a high quality unit. They have both manual and vacuum operated valves. Keep in mind that if you get a manual valve and forget to turn it off you have a real possibility of gas overflowing into your crankcase.

Does ANYBODY make an economy fuel tap? All it does is turn off and on so I'm not prepared to pay a premium. If it lit up and spun maybe I would. :D

Arlyn's problems as sooooooooo typical. Steve, there are a number of inexpensive petcocks available but I was never able to find one that fit the 1980 models because of their very limited clearance. I think you can find one for your bike without too much trouble. :wink:

I bought one from BikeBandit.com for my 82 GS1100GK. Was about $55. If you have a bike shop near you (not a Suzuki dealer) you might get one a little cheaper. Came with the O ring and solved my fuel leak problem. Typical problem with anything vacuum operated. Ever have a vehicle with vacuum operated wipers? Wonder why they went away??? Any way, you definately don't want gas in the crankcase.

Joe...any idea which one would fit a 1980 GS1100E?
 
Sorry, but I can't help with this. I couldn't find any fitment info on Pingel's website. I'd guess the best thing to do would be to call them.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I've contacted Pingel and ordered an appropriate petcock according to their recommendations. No doubt about not being cheap. Let's hope the product quality is up to their prices.

If all goes well, I'll have my replacement petcock by Friday, and perhaps an operable bike soon after.
