A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm planning to take care of the cosmetics on my bike over the winter months. I have a friend who is an excellent painter who will do my tank and side covers as a favor. I'll paint the motor myself.

I'd like to get the frame and other bits powder coated. I've been quoted $375 for the frame and swingarm. I'm considering trying the other parts myself. Does this sound like a fair price? What do you guys usually pay? I'm sure prices vary in different areas.

For what it's worth (I'm in Britain), I pay around ?150 to ?180 for the frame, swinging arm and all the black bits (engine mounts, electrics plate etc). The only prep I need to do is wash the worst of the oil and grease off.

$375 really isn't that bad. There are diy kits out there that will let you do a home powder coat job, just so long as it fits in the oven, but the mrs might not be too thrilled about that. Just make sure you prep the metal really well, ie make it bare metal that has either been sand blasted or hand sanded. I'd check to see how much it is for everything else too.

That sounds about right. ?180 is just less than $300 btw.

Make sure you take ALL the bits you need powdercoating at the same time, my local place has a minimum order of ?20 so it's a bugger when you find you've left out the sidestand spring and have to get it done on its own :(

I have found if you use a shop dedicated to the automotive industry you will pay double. I found a shop that powder coats fence posts and light posts and they will do a frame for me for about a $100 if black and $125 for silver or other colour.

There's a place in Archbold,Ohio that builds scaffold but powder coats all their stuff.I used to work there and sometimes we would get odd stuff like go cart frames. They have some cool colors but their black was really sharp. The name of the place was Granite industries in Archbold,Oh.Give them a call and see what they can do,you'll have to google their name cause I don't recall the number.
