A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Although I'm still buried in 2 feet of snow up here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, I'm eagerly anticipating spring and getting back on my GS650GL.
1. Over the winter I picked up a new UNI airbox filter, and the instructions say it must be oiled; is there a particular oil for this, or will any motor oil (ie. 10W40, 10W30, etc) do?

2. The battery is due for a replacement, and although I could go to Canadian Tire and get a replacement (current one is a Motomaster), can anyone recommend a better battery, particularly other forum members from the Edmonton or surrounding area?
Thanks in advance
CdnGeorge

If you were in the states I would go to WalMart , Your local Canadian Tire? should have K&N or some type of air filter oil and a battery

El cheapo battery from Walmart, Sam's Club, Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc., is all you need. Whatever the equivalent of these stores in Canada may be, shop price.

The Suzuki filters say to use 30 oil but I've used 80w90 before. The best way to oil the filter is to put some oil in a plastic bag and toss the filter in with it. Squeeze out the extra oil or it will drool all over your airbox.

Down here in Red Deer, the Canadian Tire special has lasted me 4 seasons with no sign of fading. A 1milliamp trickel over the winter with the caps loose, has served me well. You could look into a sealed battery. There was a thread not too long ago about betteries. You guys got 2 feet of snow??

Thanks, all, for the info.
This is my third season with the bike, so I have no idea how old the battery is in it, but during the latter part of last season, I had to jump or push start the bike nearly every trip, so I think a battery replacement is in order.
Craig; my bike is tarped on my patio on the north side of the house, so our full winter's snow is still surrounding it. Edmonton is still quite white (er, dirty grey)

Cheers,
Cdn George

sucks doesn't it

sucks doesn't it

Same here in Nova Scotia, never ridden a bike before in my life, 48, got a good deal on an '82 gs750T which needs some minor work, tires, exhaust etc, but the snow's screwing it up.
Being booked in for the course the last weekend in April helps as it's stopping me from trying to work in the snow to get things ready...Mike
