A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have the dyna-s ignition and am trying to get it on today. I've got a lot of it done, but I need to know a couple things...

first, the instructions (http://www.dynaonline.com/english/instruct/DS3-3C.pdf) say to locate a magnet that's 1/4 inch in diameter...can't find it!

second, the hole in the center of the ignition plate seems large compared to the advance assembly...even with the black thing they provided to put over it

third, in the diagram, there is only one red wire (three total wires). My ignition has 2 red wires (total of 4). Do I just hook the two coils up identically to eachother?

bike is a 78 gs400
thanks!

The magnet is on the rotor. (the cap that keys onto the end of the crankshaft) Take the rotor off and look at it closely, there is a 1/4", round indention appearing spot on one side of the rotor.

The large hole is the sight window for seeing the | F1 F4 and the
| F2 F3 marks stamped onto the base of the advance counterweight assembly. The first mark | is TDC, the F1 mark is advance setting at idle rpm of 1200. The F4 mark is full advance setting at aprox 3000 rpm.
The F1 is for left cylinder idle rpm. F3 is left cylinder full advance The F2 is the right cylinder idle and F4 is right cylinder full advance.

The red wire on the Dyna is power supply 12 volts positive. You would splice that wire into the 12 Volt positive lead that supplies the coils. It does not matter which coil you supply the power to the dyna from. Be sure you supply the Dyna from the coil input side (the bike's wiring harness side)

Normally, the power supply for the coils is a orange/white wire or pair of orange/white wires. The terminals on the coils are not polarity sensitive, so you just connect a 12v +, switched source to one terminal on each coil. It can be a single wire with a jumper to the other coil and the Dyna red power supply wire can be connected to this also. Coil hookups for power supply/input are identical. The remaing terminal on the coil connects to the crankshaft trigger. You will have (on the Dyna unit on the crank) one black wire, one white and one red. The red we already covered. The white connects to the remaining left coil terminal and the left coil spark plug lead goes to the left cylinder. The black connects to the remaining terminal on the right coil and the spark plug lead goes to the right cylinder.

If all your red harness wires are switched 12V +, you could connect one to the red dyna power supply lead, and one each to a terminal on the right and left coils.

Thanks for the help! I spent some time, got it all figured out. It starts up like a champ now...now just have to get it to idle, finish the timing (I think) and get her running properly...oh sooo close.
