A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a very nice 850L my uncle gave me. Its a fantastic bike. The bike has been inside and has 11k miles. I went through the bike and have put ~300 miles on it. The next $ question is do I replace the stator and reg/rec? I read the stator papers. Should I dielectric grease everything or just spend the cash for new units? If I buy, from whom?
Thx, Jon

The first question you should ask yourself is: "is the bike charging properly?"

If the answer is "yes", there is no need to replace them.

If the answer is "no", then you will need to determine which part is needed.

Yes Sir, runs great. Was more concerned about reliability. I plan on riding this old girl all over.

The cheapest way to increase reliability Clean all of the connections and Install a Honda Regulator

I don't think that answers the question Steve asked; Do a "Quick Test" (see my signature)and report the results top see if you are charging.

It can "run great" all day long, but if the stator and R/R are not doing their job, it's going to be a short day. :p

Very correct, Pos, he is obviously mistaking "running great" with "working properly".

Perhaps my inexperience has muddled my question. I have a 31 year old bike in great shape. I rode it 180 miles last Friday without an issue. In the event it passes the Quick Charging test, should I just ride it or upgrade? I plan on riding from Ohio to Florida and back to let my uncle see the bike running.

The answer to your questions can be found in the link to the quick test.

Mine ran fine too, but then we went for a quick evening ride. Next day, battery is dead. Testing revealed a bad Honda R/R & fried stator.
When they go bad, there is generally very little warning....
