    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

its been awhile, but my 1978 GS550 that I restored with all your assistance has been running great. Over 3000 miles since the start of the year. In fact, its running so great that I'm going to push my luck and do a 1000 mile iron-butt this weekend... and one leg of the ride may have rain.

I have pod filters on the bike.. how much should I be worried about the engine sucking in water if its raining ? I guess as long as the filters are oiled correctly the oil will prevent water from seeping into the carbs and engine?

I realize that anyone who rides a 25yr 550cc bike for 1000 miles is way past worrying about rain, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I'll post some photos when the ride is done.

it is posible that during a good down pour, or splashing through puddles, some water could get in, I have heard of several people running pods having some problems, like stumbles and some missfires, but nothing major, make sure the pods are oiled good and take it carefull in the rain, you should be ok.
 
look at it this way....a little water will do the trick on removing some carbon build up 8O

I have had five bikes over the years with three of them with pod style filters and here in rainy Oregon I had never had a running problem with regard to rain getting into the carbs.

Great.. thanks for the sanity check...

btw, my loop will take me from NorCal to Boise to Portland to Norcal.. it was the "rainy Oregon" leg that had me wondering. but looks like the weather will be clear. ;-)
