    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rebuilding a drive shaft.

Anyone ever done this?
I want to replace the UJ in Jennifers drive shaft, but after looking at it, I am not sure if you can.
It seems to have some wierd ass peening or pins or something holding it in, anyone know if it can be replaced or not?
There is nothing wrong with it, but I would just like to replace it while I am doing everything else.

It appears to be done just like the Goldwings. Non-repairable/replaceable u-joints. You have to buy a whole new driveshaft if it blows up (a friend of mine has a '77 Wing and had it happen to him), I looked at the 'Wing driveshaft, read many microfiche, all they offered were buy another one (he found a good used one, nothing new out there).
 
I can't recall ever hearing about a U-joint failure.

I remember hearing about a few that broke the driveshaft or stripped the splines, but never a u-joint failure.

Re-install (with new bolts, or at least Loctite) and don't worry about it. :D
 
I've never examined one before (despite having removed one), but that does appear to be staked in. Replacing it would a mess even with access to a machine shop.
 
There is nothing wrong with it,

If it aint broke don't fix it, or fix it till it is broke, which I have done often.:(

Yep, my #1 son would be one of those on his 650. :o

He insisted that he wasn't racing or anything like that, but this was the result:

Had a u-joint failure (actually it was the yoke around it) on my Voyager 1300, but have not heard of one on a GS. :-k
