    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Regulator-Rectifier...i think?

heres the question.i followed the flow chart in the stator pages...looks like the stator is good, but the RR seems to be troubled. when i attempt the diode test, i get 0L on multimeter...i assume the RR is shot, also the ac voltage is good coming off the stator (80Vac @ 5Krpm) but there is onll a small raise in dc voltage @ the battery (12.1Vdc < 12.8Vdc) if the RR is bad, and i assume it is why is there any raise in dc voltage? i do not want to spend the $ if can avoid it. one last thing- the 10amp fuse was missing for the power source...i dont have a manual, i assume the fuse is needed?

first, does your bike have four or five fuse holders? if it has five, the bottom one is a accessory fuse, for hooking up heated grips or a heated jacket or radar detector, etc.

if you are only getting 12.1 at idle and it only rises to 12.8 with revs, you may have a dead leg in the rectifier.
have you tried changing or eliminating the connectors from the stator?
and have you run a secondary ground from the regulator to the ground terminal on the battery??
the secondary ground may cure your problem, if the regulator does not have a good ground to the battery you will have charging problems.
my bike had a low charge rate problem also and the secondary ground modification cured it.
 
what would be the best way to put a secondary ground the the RR?
