A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Circa around 1981.
My buddy Don owned a '79 GS750E and I had my '80 GS1000E.

After a day touring around Newport RI, looking at the mansions, we were traveling back to Framingham MA.
We got bored with the congested interstate route home.
After a few miles of congested secondary roads we rounded a bend and there lay infront of us a straight-away, seemingly to the vanishing point.

Don immediately gassed it, while I thought about it for a moment or two.
Oh what the hell I thought and pinned the throttle, layed on the tank, and after a couple minutes I cruised by him at a tach interpolated 130MPH.
We ran the length of the straight, perhaps 5-8 minutes, and slowed up responsibly as we entered the outshirts of a small town.
We rolled up to a red traffic light, grinning massively under our helmets.

A cop appeared at the intersecting road on the right, proceeded through his green turning left, and pulled a U-turn to be directly behind us.
Don stared straight ahead awaiting the light, while I ventured a look to the rear. The cop pointed me to pull over just as the light changed to green.

Don went through the light at a normal pace and didn't look back.
I started to pull over and the cop nearly ran me into the curb with his car.
The cop jumped out, asking where my buddy went. I asked him why he tried to run me over. He said he got a call from another cop back up the road that we were traveling really fast.

He called ahead to apprehend Don while we waited for the cop that had seen us speeding. A minute or two passed and finally the 'sighting' cop raced up to the 1st cop and I.

The 1st cop jumped into his car, with my license & registration,
and tore through the intersection, against the red light,
driving an innocent citizen off the road and into a curbside traffic light pole common in New England. The pole & traffic light came crashing to the ground.

Now this little town was just brimming with cop cars.
The innocent citizen jumped out of his car, ranting about what had happened to him, so one of the newly arriving cops placed him into his patrol car. The citizen was very annimated. Lots of pointing and shouting.

The 'sighting' cop and I were standing there watching this unfold.
I said things were a little crazy here in town, and could he direct me to where the 1st cop went with my license. He called on the radio, and then gave me directions. It was the route Don and I agreed upon earlier.

I cruised into town, turned right, cruised out of town for about five miles. I rolled up to a scene with Don and his GS750, 6 cop cars of differing towns/counties, and a small crowd of people standing nearby.
The crowd cheered and applauded my arrival. Villian or Hero I know not.

They had my ticket ready. $25 for over 85 in a 55MPH zone.
Amazingly, MA had a fixed speeding fine at the time.
Don got the speeding ticket, a failure to stop ticket, and a no inspection sticker ticket, for around $175 or so. Don had just driven on our agreed route at normal speeds.

After that, each small town on the way home had their Barney's waiting and watching us as we traveled through.

Best $25 I've ever spent. ;)

Wow! That sounds like Mayberry mayhem! :D

I wish you had pictures. LOL!

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your indulgence,

25 dollars: shhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot, that's money well spent.

It sounds like the cops cause more damage than the money they collected... not to mention the danger to citizens....

 Good stuff...

I can only imagine trying to pull this off near Framingham MA today....

'Twas the good ol' days......:D

It's all coming back to me as I fight with the damn 'air screw' on carb #2.
