A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Sealant For my petcock

I'm going to go later and get some sealant to try and fix my leak that I brought up in another thread. My question is what kind should I get. :D

I use the OEM rubber gasket and I've had no leakes. I've had to use a white thread sealer for the screws though. Not locktite.

No monkey snot bandaids. Fix the problem. Gasoline is nothing to play games with.

Using sealant is my last resort. As stated in my other thread everything has been replaced with new OEM parts. The mounting surface is clean.

You must be overlooking the root cause of the problem then. I strongly advise you to fix the problem properly, without sealer. What about draining the tank and introducing some air pressure while using soapy water to find the leak location?

All new parts.... but have you checked depth of o-ring groove- if it was made too deep (easy manufacturing error), the o-ring couldn't seal. My old petcock had depth of 2 mm.

3m weatherstripping sealant, fuel and oil resistant, it works.

Weatherstrip sealant to keep fuel off the top of the engine, just inches from your crotch?

Sometimes we can make things sound much worse than the reality of a situation. Sealant is not a substitute for o-ring but it there is a small amount of seaping it works. A small leak prior to adding sealant is not going to turn into a spontaneous huge leak, drip gas on the engine and set your balls on fire.

Why are you trying to seal the petcock to the tank? Wouldn't it be better to find the source of the leak and fix that. Did you try a leak tracing powder to find the source of the leak yet?

You can buy gas and oil resistant cork gasket material at many of the major autoparts houses if you need to fabricate a "franken"/thicker gasket. As others have said, I would only do this if you absolutely can't fix the root cause of your problem!

Check the surface with a straight edge, both petcock and tank. Or as previously suggested pressurize the tank and use a paintbrush to put some soapy water on the petcock to find out exactly where it's leaking.
