A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've done a search and didn't find much on seat foam here. What kind of foam is being used on a caf? seat? I'm not doing anything fancy. Just a simple flat pad on a fiberglass seat pan. Thanks in advance!

I've done quite a bit of research myself, looking to go the same route. There are a lot of options. It really depends on your budget and necessity for comfort. What I've found so far is; layers of yoga mats, foam camping mattress, layer cut from original seat and professional seat foam. I'm sure there are others, but since my seat pan is toast I'm going to use my old seat foam I think.

Best thing is to use a two-stage approach - softer foam over harder foam. The soft foam contours and comforts you while the harder foam underneath provides support and prevents deadspots and sore points.

I'd ask to buy some from a pro shop, or simply get the seat to the stage where it'll be covered and then get them to put the foam in and cover on.

Its one of those things that you will sorely (pun intended) regret if its not done properly.

Cheers - boingk

get some GOOD foam!!! (bedding expert here).

As Hakamisu said, dense foam at the bottom, then your comfort layer ;)
get some nice memory foam or a nice visco-elastic. Treat your ass to some good foam. it is your main connection to your bike apart from your arms lol

I still don't know anything about foam. What kind of foam is "stiff" and what is softer? The 2 stage approach sounds like the way to go but I don't know what kind of stiff or soft foam to buy. The foam at fabric stores seems way too soft. Even the stiff foam at the fabric store seems too soft to me. The gel stuff sounds good for the top but what to buy for the base....
