A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi wondering does anybody know the length of the lugs on the side covers
on a (1980-gs850) as my side- covers have them broken off,
the covers have to slots on top and suppose to have a lug on the bottom
any ideas would be helpful.
as i can't get them in australia.

Here in Bathurst the 1000 lugs are 22mm long, 18mm to the widest bit which is 10mm dia and the rest is 8mm dia. You could replace a lug with a screw of about those dimensions. I imagine the size is common to most models.

you talking about the plastic pegs that pop into rubber grommets on the frame? Do what I did. Find a long enough bolt and two wide flat washers with holes just big enough to pass the bolt through. Mount the bolt through the grommet from the back side holding it in place each side of the grommet with the flat washers. Put a nut or two on the bolt and tighten it down to the washers then drill a hole the size of the bolt diameter in the cover and put the cover on with the end of the bolt peaking through the hole about 1/4". then get a stainless steel capnut and a smaller washer to hold the cover on. Doesn't look bad and you never have to worry about those pegs breaking again. You can find all that stuff at a hardware store for about $2.

On my 1980 850 GL the bottom lug is 15/16" long and the swelling on the tip of it starts at 5/8".

Dangermouse, there is an article in tips and tricks that tells exactly how to fix the problem of the broken pins in the side covers. It was just recently posted by Lawrie (lwhiteuk). I'm going to try it on one of my side covers I'll let everyone know how it goes. He uses a wooden dowel to replace it sounds like a very good fix for a common problem.

thanks everybody fixed them got a bit off plastic welding
done the trick.
cost about $25 aust dollars. thanks for tips
