A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What is the min sleeve length I can use on my 82 GS1100E? I bought a used 1428 Big Block with MTC flat top pistons off ebay and one of the sleeves is shorter than the rest. Looks like it's been replaced. Can I still use it? 3 of the sleeves are 4.6" long and the one is only 4.38" long.

No advice on this one? I'm thinking the .020" difference will be OK as long as the rings are still in the sleeve? I realize there will be less skirt support of the piston, but I am willing to take that risk.

Just need to bore my cases yet and determine base gasket thickness and then I will drop her in. Anyone have any advice on case boring by hand or setting deck height with base gaskets?

Send a PM to rapidray or give him a call. Look up some of his posts, he frequently give his phone number.

I believe the number he gives out is his shop number, but building bikes is his business, so give him a call.

Case Boring

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks Steve.

Has anyone else here though tried boring cases by hand with a die grinder? I thought I read one post here before on a 1327 build who did, but can't find it now?

Give me a call at 714--356-7845. Let me guess, the shorter sleeve is #3? Yes, you can cut the upper case half but you should really have them bored in a mill. That way they will all be the same diameter & depths, and will be bored straight.

Ha, yes it was #3 cylinder that was short! How did you know? Left you a message with my number. Thanks Ray.

Ray called me back earlier today and schooled me on GS engine builds in about 15 min! He was very helpful and willing to answer all my questions. Thanks again Ray!

Also, the 3rd sleeve is shorter because GS750's had a larger diameter primary gear on the crank!
