Because of space limitations on my electrics panel, I'm considering a starter solenoid similar to this one, with the correct spacing (60mm), to possibly use in place of the stock unit.

Any known replacement suggestions that will fit the stock mounting with the studs facing outwards greatly appreciated.

With a long enough bolt to fit through all the tabs with spacers, you could stack 2 side by side stacks of Bosch relays for 120/160 amps capacity. :-\\\

If you really need the studs facing outward, put the screws in from the back and tighten to the mounting plate with nuts. 1 1/2" should do.

The way the original electrics panel components were mounted.

New panel with the SH775BA mounted in place of the separate regulator and rectifiers and the reason for needing a different solenoid.

Hi Dale,

Fits this way...

Ed, unfortunately my fuse box is on the far right side.

Tried overlapping the fuse box with the R/R but it looks too crowded. I might be able to make a strap to move it to the left of the fuse box, but I may end up with the same problem if I do.

Nice idea showing me how yours was mounted. Might have to get me a 1980 electrics panel. :)

Nice neat solution if I can find one a little narrower.

OK Ed,
A few questions:

  1. Did you have to modify that side plate any to fit the SH-775?
  2. Is that an OEM fusebox?
  3. And finally what bike?

TIA Jim

Plate is stock on my '80 1000S. Slotted the holes in the R/R ever so slightly so it could be slid away from the stock fuse box.

Ed,

I know I have had some people that have wanted SSPB's for their Cooley's and I was not sure if the SSPB was a good fit after putting on the SH-775 on. It looks like the Fuse box and SH-775 are pretty close and the SSPB is an extra 0.1" wide ; close but probably not too close. Might have to open the holes just a tad more to slide the SH-775 more to the right but looks very doable and a nice fit.

It does look like the SH-775 would need relocation of the holes to be able to accommodate the OEM connector through; looks like it would interfere with the frame.

Jim, thought about this for a bit. I have a few 40 amp relays at home. I may use one of them and convert the battery cables over to male spades.

We'll see.
