stock exhaust

Just recently acquired a stock exhaust set up for my gs1000. Missing in the transaction is the connector pipe that connects the two middle pipes and also the flanges that bolts the header pipes onto the head.

How big a deal is this? I mean are the flanges absolutely necessary or can I use flanges from any other exhaust set-up? My bike currently has a mac 4 into 2 set-up but I don't think I can use the flanges that are holding that set-up onto the head.

Also, are the flanges that came off of the stock pipes any good for any other aftermarket exhaust?

Thanks for any input and also I want to take this opportunity to wish all GSR readers a Happy Thanksgiving.

Big deal

When you say you're missing the 2_3 connector, it rotted away, or is it filled in?

not sure, it just wasn't with the mufflers. seller says he will look for it and if he finds it he will send it to me along with the flanges. What can you tell me about the flange question I asked in the 1st post?

It is part of the assembly. The left and right pipes join at the bottom. No separate piece is used except a clamp.

Sorry for the mis-use of the term "flanges". I see on the parts fiche that what I need is called clamps, not flanges.

The clamp? See if you can buy a new one, or just use a hose clamp

Flanges?

If he doesn't come up with them, post up in parts wanted

I'm sure I have some ugly ones somewhere

Thanks, will do.

Were you talking about the clamps that hold the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head? There are flanges on the pipes themselves (two pipes have removable plates that effectively perform the function of a flange), and the clamps slide up the pipe and clamp the flanges to the cylinder head.

There are 4 big aluminum clamps. Sometimes two of them are trapped on the exhaust pipes and the other two will come loose with the exhaust plates.

I have a GS1100g. I bought a used exhaust from a GS1000L and was able to use the clamps that came with that exhaust. I could have also used my clamps if I cut the pipes at the weld to the muffler and got the clamps loose. The clamps from an 850 supposedly have narrower spacing for the two bolts, so I could not use those clamps.

Clamps are #4 in this pic, plates are #3:

Yes these bigger clamps that I was calling flanges. They are large and contain the two bolts that bolt the exhaust to the head. These are the pieces I got shorted out of. I guess I will have to try to source them from someone here on the GSR.
I see some of the pieces I will need are still available from Suzuki.
