A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i have an 82 gs 1100gl and i am looking to replace the tach and speedo with something different. any ideas? plug and play? what have you used?

I too am thinking of doing the same. I'm currently eyeing a Koso RX2 speedometer at the moment. But am wondering if the swap out is a pain in the arse or no. I don't mind a bit of a challenge...but would like to know if there are any considerations to be aware of before I begin.

I am running an Acewell, seems good so far.
The tacho isnt as good as an analogue one.
There is a bit of mucking around involved.

You can rig up a electronic tach rpetty well...that's a 1993 Kat 750 tach.

where did you get that vapor speedo? doesnt the vapor show the rpm's?

That's just a regular Vapor...I got it off of eBay.

The Vapor does have a built in Tach but I had a lot of issues with it on my stock GS750. I likely wouldn't have the same issues on my new Kat motor since it lacks the charging issues my previous bike had, but I really like great big tachs. I'm a ricer at heart.

Personally, I would never swap, nor would I ever wear another mans speedo...

JC Mellencamp's "I want you to swim naked."

there's something awfully homo-erotic about that song... *ahem*

::I want you to dance naked
I promise I won't touch you
I promise to tell no one, no
I want you to dance naked

Spin it round and round
Spin it round and round and round:::

*mutters under breath* anyways... enough off topic rambling, BACK TO THE SPEEDOS!

I purchased a box lot of a few speedos from a seller on ebay for cheap and used the one that fit the best.
I think its Honda.
Gear drive and the Suzuki cable matched up no proplem.

I just installed an older Kawasaki cluster on my 77GS... Pretty sure mine came off an 86 Ninja, but Kawi used this cluster on a bunch of bikes.

Made a temporary bracket for now, but will be moving it in a bit tighter. Also had to solder up the wires (correctly) to an old pigtail. I removed the temp gauge and relocated my ignition into it.

You have to wire the electronic tach (the volt meter works too!) and I had to buy a 6" speedo cable extension from MikesXS since it is on the right hand side now.
