I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Tank clean up MEK

Yeah, I just used a quick shot. It has been sitting for 2 years without a tank & dry carbs.

Hope you are checking inside to make sure all the old liner is out before derusting.

I'm still working on the liner. It's a bugger to say the least!!!

Here is a pic of some of the old Kreem liner. All the stuff in the top left corner came from around the filler neck. The other wad & few large pieces were fished out when I was draining the MEK on the 1st round.

The MEK combined with a Brillo pad on a stiff wire seems to be working well.

We will see.
(The handle on that ratchet is supposed to be pointing down)

Well, it's done. Now I wait until the liner cures. It's not as easy as a '71 Army Jeep. I used the POR 15 tank kit. I wish I would of had twice as much sealer, towards the end, it was hard to tell where the fluid was at. The people that designed a '78 1000 tank sure never considered someone putting a liner in it one day.

I figure that 2nd to worse case scenario, this buys me time to find a good tank.

Thanks for all the help guys. Maybe next weekend... I ride...

Maybe.

Update. Tank is on, waiting on a new grommet & bolt for the rear of the tank (completely forgot that I didn't have one) and fill the front forks... then I should be mobile! It ran tonight, on its own, with fuel that I put in the 78 skunk tank I bought from Salty!!! Soon. Riding soon!

Congrats - sorry it was harder than thought. In a pinch you can use washers and some fuel hose / water coolant hose to make a mount at the back. I rode 2000 miles through baja with the 1100 tank fixed like that. :)

Yeah, thanks Salty. Now my problem seems to be fuel delivery. It will only run on full choke.
Im guessing I need to do the carb tear down that everyone is so violently adamant about doing.
My bigest problem is that I don't have a gauge to set vacuum with... And I don't have $ get one now. We will see.
Thanks.

Yes sounds like it. You can make a vacuum gauge for a few bucks, plenty of tutorials online. To get it running and ride it you can do it statically anyway - you are not going to be that far off & it will probably change anyway once you've run it for a bit!

Yeah, I spent $22 @ Ace Hardware today on tubing, nylon Ts, zip ties & ATF. The zip ties & ATF were the most expensive items. I just don't know how to connect the clear tubing to each carb. I will do some more research.
I also bought a can of Berryman's. (1 gal)
The carb clean up is in the very near future.

You need some adapters with the stock suzuki carb boots, if you have a drill press you could drill through some bolts or maybe you can turn a thread onto some small plastic pipe. You need a very small diameter to act as a damper anyway so as long as you can get consistent size holes through & screw it into the port on the boot (with an O ring to get a seal) it should work.

The Z1 Carb boots have a "spigot" that you can connect tubing to directly (they fit the GS1000 with minor mods to slot the fixing holes). If you haven't replaced the carb boot O rings then you probably should - they are cheap. If you have carb boot leaks I have two sets here that are not pretty but are serviceable...

Thanks Salty, but I bought all new O rings from cycleorings along with top & bowl gaskets & screws too.
