    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tank dent removal

I finally got around to trying the dry ice trick on my tank. Just laying it on the dent did nothing. Next day, I was going to try heating the metal with a hair dryer but my dry ice, which I was keeping in the freezer had evaporated. Suppose I should have kept in the cooler I brought it home in. The I found a website (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/501379/remove_car_dent_with_airduster/) that told how to use one of those cans of compressed that have CO2 in them and pre-heating the dent with a hair dryer. It worked great in their video but did nada on my tank. Maybe the metal is too thick. I'm going to get more dry ice and try it when I get back home tomorrow with the hair dryer and maybe the torch (yes, all gas/vapor is gone) if that doesn't work. Wanting to get the tank repainted before I put it all back together. Here is one of the dents.

There is one on each side, both caused by the fairing hitting the tank when the bike was knocked over/dropped.
 
I tried the CO2 trick and it didn't work on my tank - large smooth dent. Used a Harbor Freight equivelent to the Dent King and it worked well on one dent but not so well on another. The smoother dent came out almost 100% but the other dent was deeper and extended up into the area where there is pin stripes. The glue on puller took off some clear coat in one area and took off the pin stripes in another. I really didn't expect the paint to hold up to this abuse but was hoping it would. At any rate, the glue stick method does work pretty well but it's not perfect. It will work very well if your hope is to get the tank smooth enough for a thin bondo layer. Just don't expect it to pull dents and leave the tank perfect unless the dent is shallow and doesn't have any paint graphics in the area.
 
Good enough for a thin layer of bondo is all I was shooting for. There is a crease at the top of each dent that I am probably stuck with. I'm repainting any way.
