A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What is the best additive to use to prevent tank rust &/or clogged carbs on these old GS's?

I like seafoam (when I remember to use it). Like Tkent says though, ride that baby you'll have no issues.

Writing up a little story of my "forgetfullness" for the carb section right not:o

Best "additive" for regular use is just more fresh gas. (Ride often.)

My "additive" for storage is a double-dose of Sta-bil, then ride around the block, top off the tank and park it.

No in-line filters here, the ones that came with the bike are still working fine. :-\\\

.

Berrymans B12 Chemtool for periodic freshening up ( few times a season with the ethanol gas ) and for long term storage I use Stabil.

Wow I new you guys were having a tough, long winter but this Question at the end of March?:p

The 500mb models show an event from the pacific which could be dropping a significant winter storm on the northern area of the eastern seaboard in the coming weeks. So the winter isn't over yet on the east coast.
I blame the collapse of the gulfstream convections which stalled just east of bermuda and allowed the polar vortex to split, but some of the locals here are questioning if witchcraft was involved.

My friend the collector stores his 80+ bikes with non ethanol premium (the only NE gas we can get) and some SeaFoam in the tank

He can go out and start any of his bikes in 15-30 minutes, depending on how long it takes to hook up the battery

I use SeaFoam and non-ethanol premium (only non-ethanol around here in TN). I also know some people simply drain the fuel bowls if they know it's going to be awhile.

HA! crazy bastards!

100% sunnoco 110 racing fuel -- no alcohol to evaporate, nice on the rubber parts, we had a bike in storage for 6 years put in a battery fired right up got it hot then we changed the oil and filter. amazing how it lasted the test of time and protected the inside of the tank.

A dash of Seafoam with every fill and a dash of seafoam and startron for winter storage. In the spring I put the batteries back in them and first crank, vroom......ready for another season.

Seafoam.

I live in San Antonio so there is no "long term storage". We are lucky in that respect.
