A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Throttle response very touchy

Never thought I'd say that my bike is running too well. OK, I've got about 60 miles on her since the carb rebuild and the valves reshimmed. Power difference is amazing. This is going to sound strange, but now the bike seems to have too much power too soon into the throttle. The bike idles fine, runs fine and has no flat spots straight through to 9k in any gear (1st through 4th is all I had the balls to do). Only a slight turn of the wrist and I'm off and pulling strong. Just seems to come on a little too fast for my liking. Almost like it has a faster cable pull then normal. At a steady 60mph in 5th gear, it only takes maybe a 1/4" turn of the wrist from off throttle to maintain it. Is this just my perception after riding it when it was so out of tune to now it running correctly? Compression has jumped from 130 to 150 across the board as well.

Welcome to the world of a properly-running 850.

:D

While you are enjoying that, though, keep in mind that the 850 is probably the slowest-accelerating four-cylinder GS.

If you pay attention, it also has a dual-range powerband. :-k
Smooth and docile up to 6k, but take it over that, it's like somebody added a small shot of nitrous or grafted on a fifth cylinder.

.

My previous bike didn't seem to be so off/on/off as this one and it was a 79 GS1000L so I was a little surprised at this from an 850.:D Maybe it's the shaft drive that I'm feeling as well.

You may want to check where on the throttle grip the cable is connected. I noticed on my 450 that there were two connection points for the cable end pin.
