I have a 1981 GS850G that I'm trying to give some TLC. I have some minor dents in the tank from when I purchased the bike, and am wondering where I should go from here now that I have some more money to spend on the bike. I know that the tank is safe, it's been to the shop and had a complete safety inspection just this month. I'm unsure as to whether I should leave the tank as is (it's a bit of an eyesore), or find a new one for it. If I get a new tank I could work on restoring the old one and getting those dents out of it (maybe some new paint too?) although I have no tools for any of that.
Has anyone purchased a gas tank for their GS850G? I'm nervous about buying a tank and having it not fit on the bike.
My bike is at the shop getting a tune-up right now, otherwise I'd post a picture of the tank to give you guys an idea on what the dents look like.
