    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

tire change frustrations---tubes.

Work opposite the valve stem, it can get trapped under the beads. Tube half inflated. Make sure both beads opposite where you are working are in the center channel! This makes a huge difference.
 
I have the Harbor Freight setup too, I use baby powder on the tube, ruglide on the tire and inflate it for a few days to get the wrinkles out of it. After its all on hit it with some air a few times easy and let it out. Double check that the tube is clear and air it up. The strap technique most definetly works on tubeless tires, no BS there, its amazing !I had 8 tires to mount and the dealer wanted $35 each so I bought the tire machine instead, not perfect but better then razzling them on the floor.

tried the 'lash strap technique' pictured on bikecliffs site and detailed at the advriders forum....i call BULL**** on that technique. there is just no way it is that easy, unless the tire is, in fact, an inch larger than the rim.

so i got some tire spoons and some ru-glyde. and....

promptly pinched the tube, putting a lovely hole in the brand new butyl rubber.

so. now, i either

patch the tube and try it again, being more careful,

buy a new tube and try it again,

or just give up and bring my wheels to the shop, and hang my head in shame at the defeat of the first job on my gs i have been unable to do myself.

oh, did i mention it was almost 70 degrees here today?!?

any suggestions on how to proceed, guys?

I see your bike is a 78 GS750 which is the same as mine. I put new Dunlop tubless tires on my alloy wheels and used no tubes with no problems.

I just did a tube on my yamaha. I have a harbor freight tire changer machine that holds the tire. It came with a long rod for installing the tire on the wheel, but kept popping out for the last 7 inches or so. I used a K-L tire pry tool that pulled the tire over the last few inches. Worked for me.

I took a look at that tool, and can't quite figure out how you are supposed to use it ... how does it work

(I'll probably end up saying "D'oh" as soon as it's explained to me)
