A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Turn Signal Relay-junk

So, I think the relay is junk. Sometimes the signals work, sometimes they don't. I have to smack the relay to get them to work again. I would like to replace them, and HAVE read the guide on BassCliff's site, but I was hoping I could just buy another relay at an autoparts store, or am I stuck doing the flasher thing? If so, what part numbers are the items I need if I go to a place like autozone or advanced (if different from the guide's numbers)?

For example, will either of these work?

Maybe, maybe not. Just because they have three terminals, like your original flasher, does not mean that the connections inside are the same. Many on here have replaced their original relays with a two-terminal flasher with success, but you will lose your auto-cancel in the process.

A couple of us on the board are working on a replacement flasher unit, but it's not ready yet.

Read this post... Should not be much different for your bike.

This is the relay I picked up...Advance auto had it on the shelf.

I'm not sure about the auto cancel feature, as my 79 does not have it....but it was the best $12 and 5 minutes I have spent to make my blinkers work properly, and reliably.

For bikes with auto cancel turn signals, there's not really a substitute that will retain the auto cancel function.

However, you can use a regular two-terminal flasher and at least have turn signals that work. (You just have to shut them off yourself, which is hard to remember when you're used to the auto cancel.) You'll have to experiment to find the correct terminals to use out of the three -- I don't remember exactly which wire is which.

Another possibility is to pry the plastic cover off the stock relay and clean it up inside with WD-40 and electrical contact cleaner. We got one working this way after it had come loose from its mount and filled up with water while hanging upside-down.

I don't know the technical reason, but I got an after market flasher for my GSX250 and it flashed 3 times as fast as the original?

So I ended up buying that EP34 flasher that BassCliff had in his tutorial, and it didn't work. Ran over to my buddies old chevy project truck, and grabbed a standard GM 2-terminal relay. Hooked it up,and BAM, it works again. Bought him a new relay for $2.00 at the parts store.
