    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I originally posted this in my other thread - not sure if it's a no no to have 2 threads in here, but I figured it might be good to have a specific thread about the carb part of this whole ordeal since the airbox is taken care of (hopefully!!!, it is sealed now so far as I can tell!)

Okay - here we go. I'm having trouble getting the carbs unganged. I've removed the choke lever rod, opened up the top of each carbs and removed the screws which tighten onto the throttle rod, loosened up the screw that holds the throttle cable assembly onto the throttle rod, as well as the plate in between carbs one and two, as well as the 8 screws on the gang plate itself.

It seems, at least to me, that in order to remove the gang plate, the throttle rod needs to come out first. It's loose, and has some play from left to right, but is not coming out. There has to be something I'm missing here? Help please? Here are some pictures of where I'm at.

Yes, you must pull out the throttle rod. That 10 mm hex head screw in the middle of the gang (shown in your last photo) needs to be loosened or removed before the rod will pull out.

Yes - that one is loose already in that picture, the one that kind of hides behind the idle adjustment screw?

I mean, it seems like everything is loose, but the bar only has like a centimeter or 2 of play. Are they tough to come out sometimes? you think I should use a dowel and a mallet or something?
 
It's possible that one of the screws that locks a carb slide to the throttle shaft has its tip still partially engaged. Loosen all your screws another turn and try again.

Can't tell from the pictures, ... you do have the end caps off, so the throttle shaft can come out the end?

Yeah, the end caps are off ha ha, I'm not that dull! ^__^ . But uhm, you just mean the 4 screws, one for each carb, that is removed once you have the top carburetor cover off? I took them completely out, they aren't just loosened.

If that's not what you're describing, is there another type of screw that I'm missing?
 
Yeah take that hex screw all the way out in the middle of the gang. The one that is just loose. If it is screwed in at all, it is still connected to the shaft and you cant pull it out.

When I broke mine down, I had to tap the throttle rod through with a drift. Dirt and grim was causing it to hang up on the rubber end caps. Shoot a little PB or W-D on there also.

You said you have # 62 removed right?

Ed was referring to the 8 MM bolt that goes thru the throttle linkage gang and is screwed into the slide rod...that has to come out before thge rod can be slid out..once thats off the back plate will lift off.
 
yes 62 (and the corresponding bolt 60) is removed! I will fully remove the screw in the middle of the gang and try again, could have sworn it wasn't catching on anything though.

I told myself earlier today "okay, I'm not going to work on it any more tonight!" but I think I'm about to go downstairs into the garage and check it out ha ha. thanks for the super speedy responses.

Edit: Yeah, the 8mm coming completely out did the trick. Feel like an idiot for assuming it being loose would do the trick. Thanks everyone! ^__^

And be mindfull that as you pull the rod thru the slides linkages may bind a bit. Just grab the rod with a good pair of pliers and twist and pull out at the same time..it will riggle its way out. Clean it real well and derust any spots..lube with some synthetic grease before reinstalling.

I am on a few forums and this one has definitely spoiled me. Here, you had better not ask a question and 'walk away'. Chances are that we might need a few more details, so will ask you for them. Since you are not there, the answers that you are looking for are just that much longer in coming.

I am on a Toyota Sienna forum to get some ideas about projects for my van. It is somewhat common there to maybe get an answer or two within a week. :eek:

Yeah, GSR is definitely the place to hang out.
