    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Using 850 carbs on a 1000

Hello knowledgeable people!

I am thinking of putting a 1000g engine in my 850g. Found one one ebay with no carbs.

Can my 850 carbs be made to work (satisfactorily) on the 1000?

I have scoured the website on this subject, but can't come up with a definitive answer.

Many thanks to BassCliff's website for the carb spec info. Other than the 1000 carbs being 34mm, they don't seem too different.

Is is the spacing the same? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any help or thoughts you can give is greatly appreciated!
 
As you suspect, because of the difference in diameter, the spacing is slightly different.

I have examples of both carbs here, so can get a picture for you this evening, if you wish, but am headed off to work right now.

The spacing is tighter on the 850 carbs but they can be forced on. The intake diameter is 2mm smaller so the boots will be a bit distorted when clamping them down. Jetting will be a bit of a ???? as well. If it were me, I would sell the 850 carbs and pick up a good set of BS34SS carbs from an 8 valve 1000 or 1100.

OK, sorry about the delay, but I have bad news. :oops:

The rack of 34s that I thought I have has been broken down and some of the parts sold, so I can't get a decent picture of spacing on the rack.

I did get some measurements on the rack of 32s, though. The outer carbs are real close to 75mm, center to center, the inner carbs are real close to 90mm, center to center.

Thanks for doing that, Steve. I will look for some original 34mm carbs. Any suggestions? I fear I'm getting in too deep buying a motor that's not in a parts bike. Cheers to you and the site!
