    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello fellas,

Been some time since I made a new thread, been busy riding!! :D

Being that my bike has been thoroughly modified, including relocating almost everything in the electrical system (some things to less than ideal spots), I've encountered some problems while riding in the rain.

First it was the turn signal flasher: I have LED lights, which require an electronic flasher. Electronic flashers don't appreciate water I have found, at least the ones from Autozone. Regular, non electronic flashers on the other hand, will start working again after they dry out.

Then it was my horn relay, which is more exposed to the elements near the horn in the front of the bike. This one was a biggie because it shorted somehow and completely drained my Shorai battery ($$), killing it. Changed the relay and it happened again a couple months later, but this time I caught it in time and was able to save the battery.

So, this is what I've been able to find with some searching:

Any of you have encountered these problems? What have you done to solve it?

I will probably be ordering the above if no one has a better solution. Will report back if I do!

Well, let's just say that my bikes have a bit more ... ummm ... "protection" on them, so I have never had such issues.

However, I can say that your relay choice from Parts Express is what I was going to suggest as a remedy. I have used those relays and they work well, even under water.

In your "modifying" of the electrical system, did you remove the self-cancelling turn signals? If you did, then that flasher will work just fine. If you install that flasher, you will lose the self-cancelling feature.

Yep, no more self-cancelling turn signals. My self cancelling thingamagic wasnt working when I got the bike, so it was one of the first things to go.

Good to know you've tried those relays, going to order a bunch right now. Not going to wait for the coil relay to fail now!
 
Yep, I have used a few of them and probably even have a couple in my "electrical bag" that I carry as part of my rolling shop. :D

Small update, for the sake of future searchers, I installed the flasher and the relay a couple of weeks ago and everything went smoothly. The flasher looks nicely done and water-proofed. I already got soaked (thank you Isaac) and the flasher never stopped working , where it would fail every time before.

I know, it sucks when you finally find a thread with your exact problem only to find that the guy never said whether it worked or not. Or even worse, all it says is "never mind, solved it"!

I also hate it when people dont read the last post in a thread and then post the same thing lol

You have to check the time stamp on the posts to understand some of that.

For example: I might hit the "New Posts" button at 9:00, then spend several minutes (OK, half an hour) browsing through what I see, without refreshing my search. Several minutes later, I might see a post and respond to it, not knowing that someone else already did that. Very simple fix. Take a moment, look at what you just posted, see if someone already answered the question. If they did, you can delete your post.
