A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wd-40?

I was just in the garage petting my love (1100EZ) before putting her blanket back on, and I noticed a little squeak down on the tranny when I pulled in the clutch. A quick spray of WD-40 cured that, but did I do something wrong?

Yeah you mentioned WD40. First the Synth vs Dino now the WD40.. You desperately need to start a tire thread.
Impressive start Rob.

;) :)

Proper lube?

Proper lube?

So what would be the proper lube for the release arm (see pic), if that's the proper term?

Rode it Sunday, a bit too cold yesterday.

Steak, mussels and (Colorado) koolaid.

PTFE lubricant if you are not riding very harsh environment (road salt springs to mind) in which case lithium grease is better.

Most of them work best with the arm at 90 degrees to the cable.

That gives the best mechanical advantage for your hand, but this arrangement sacrifices a little of that for more throw of the clutch itself. It doesn't look like the 90? arrangement is available here, though it could maybe get a closer to it than it is.

I'd lube that pin with some heavy grease, maybe replace it if there's visible wear. More likely, I'd just always let the engine drown out the noise.

Lube is a very personal choice. You should use whatever is comfortable for you. Yeah, I said that

PB Blaster is a penetrant, WD-40 is a Water Displacer.
Use a lubricant. Motor oil, cable lube, 3 in 1 oil, even chain lube or Dupont Teflon Lube.

LPS1 LPS2 . WD40 is an electrically safe water displacer by design. I actually use it mostly as that, or a general spray solvent because it's inexpensive.

Since you're not riding it and you want to be close to it. (I know the feeling.)
Take some time to pull the connection, rub it down with some 0000steel wool pad and 3in1 oil, be gentle at first and only get rougher when it needs it, then wipe everything off lightly lube it with a penetrating oil and put it all back together.

Light up a cigarette and have a glass of wine to enjoy the ambiance.
