    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi all,I have acquired a 1982 gsx 750 (gs in US). what forks do I have on my bike?,they don't have air valves but they have one spring and a spacer tube and they come apart by removing the Allan bolt at the bottom.this allows the removal of the oil seal by pumping the inner tube.I need to know the amount of oil as I don't want to blow the new seals. thanks
 
Any reason to believe that they are not stock forks? :-k

Your description applies to virtually ALL of the forks on GS bikes, so maybe a picture would help? :o

yes they sound like any GS forks they also look like them.What I have gleaned from the manual downloaded from Bikecliffes website ,82 GS 750's have an air valve at top of forks,Or Is this just the US version?Haines and Clymer never produced a manual for this bike as it only had a two year life.Iv'e looked at other GS models forks but none without air valves match my fork internals exactly.Where now.

sorry no. No air valve,single spring and no anti dive.forks look exactly like the ones in the 1982 gs 750 without top nut air valve.
 
You may have forks which are market specific - the US seemed to like soft ride with air assist. Rest of world wanted to go around corners...

I'd use the same amount and rating oil as the air assist forks. The internal volumes and drillings are unlikely to be different.

I think I'm safe - I'm in NZ...

I have a problem with blowing fork seals too on our GS1000 racebike - the owner is very fond of wheelies...
