Well, my project '83 GS750ED is coming along well enough. I have one nagging question though. What engine is this in my bike? I've got the shop manual now, but it has just raised more questions. The title says '83 GS750ED, the frame says the same. The engine is all black with no lettering on the cylinder head cover, which is also finned. The manual shows the engine has having polished cylinder heads and crankcase covers, but mine are all black. The manual also shows the cylinder head cover as have "TSCC" written on it and mine just doesn't have it. I started really checking the engine over well looking for a serial number or some sort of ID. Right there on the side of the engine is cast in"599cm3." There is my answer, it's a 600cc engine! On the bottom it also says "2SZZ-697." So, where did this motor come from? What kind of implications does this have for the continued renovation of the bike?
I thought the oil cooler didn't look quite right either, the bracket it was attached to have a piece of angle iron across it as a spacer or somthing, and the oil cooler lines were routed strangly. Did this motor originally have an oil cooler was the one from the removed 750 motor retained? It is connected to two holes on the front of the oil pan. Was this pan moved over from the 750 in order to hook up the cooler? If the cooler wasn't original to the engine then do I need to install this one?
This may sound silly, but what size spark plug socket do I need to get the plugs out?
One more odd question, how possible is it to drop the engine from a GS1100G into this bike? I don't really have a reason other than I know where I can get the motor cheap, and I've always had a hankering for a shaftie.
Thanks everyone,
David
