    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

When igition swich in lock position tailight on??

So I have had my old Gs850g for a few months but only recently able to ride ( no thanks to Speed Kings in Tampa,Fl) keeping it for almost 4 months and over charging me ) , but .. I rode to work and when i parked in the parking lot i turned the key to the "lock" position to lock the handlebars to one side , I came out about and hour later to check for gas leaks etc.. and noticed the tailight was on??:confused:, I turned the key to the off position and light went out / any ideas??

i think there is 2 lock positions on the switch. one is just to lock it and is other is a lock and park position. which turns the light on, if you were parked in a place which people needed to see the bike, say on a roadside or similar.
may be wrong though
 
If you turn your key to the right to lock the forks, it turns on the tailight as a [battery draining] parking light. Turn it to the left to lock the forks, there should be no lights on (this is just past the "off" position).

More important, when you turn the key to the left and lock it, far from home, and the lock jams up, never to unlock again, make sure you have the tools and the know-how to remove the ignition/lock and bypass the switch...

Just sayin'...it's happened to many of us.;)

I think it's more of a word of caution due to past experiences.

Clockwise will be ''park'' with the light, counter-clockwise PAST off will be the lock position.

Mine used to do that ... the worst time took me like 45 minutes to get it unlocked again.
Then I had a new key cut using the "numbers" on the lock. now it works on all positions with no worries.

That's what I do - get a new key based on numbers. Does anyone actually use the locked/taillight on position?

Tried that...once mine stuck, it was done...still have it, still locked....;)

Nope. My 67 T200 had it also. Never used it, why should I? Possibly a federal requirement, nothing more.

I use the locked position if I have to park someplace dicey ...

If a thief is motivated enough they could still steal it, but if the steerings locked hard over they aren't going to be pushing/rolling it away or up on a trailer ...
 
I use it when I park at work. My co-workers liked to do stupid stuff like risk losing their lives by moving my bike. I work at a different place now and I am security there so no one messes with my stuff. It's a secure facility anyway.
 
bakalorz, mighty13d, this discussion is about the 2nd locked position. I use the normal locked position (fully counterclockwise) when I do not want it moved. However, if you rotate the key fully clockwise, you can still remove the key, the steering stem is locked, but the taillight is on. This is the 2nd locked position and is seldom used.

so after a couple days of turning it counter clockwise i noticed ... it doesnt like that , some times hard to start, fuel gauge doesnt work .. i gave up , going to install a kill switch to the battery , it would take 4 men to put it on a truck .. :D

Do this the easy way. Remove your ignition switch, clean the contacts and the molded wire connector plugs, lube the plunger and all will be well again. Or, just turn it to the OFF position and put a disc lock or a u-bolt lock on the front wheel if you're worried about theft.

I thought he meant the locked OR taillight position.. haha not the park (locked and taillight) position. oops! :oops: I haven't used it but it's good if your broken down on the side of the road at night. I have not yet been broken down at night on the side of the road. Good maint and not running out of gas can help keep you from ever needing to use it. The bike I use the lock position on is also 20 years newer than most of the old GSs so it works perfectly. It's a ton easier to use than a wheel lock and 100% not forgettable!
